FidgetPockets: The Hoodie That Hugs You Back!Creators of Prescott-Based Fidget Pockets Offer Tips for Communicating with Those with Unique Voices
Members of the Sweeney family, creators of FidgetPockets—apparel for wiggly people—are on a mission this year to change it up. First order of business: to share with the public tips for communicating with those who communicate differently, including Ben and Keagan, two of the four Sweeney siblings, who happen to have autism.
AAC Board Revealed at Splash Pad in Prescott
The first AAC Board has been revealed at the Splash Pad in Prescott. Thank you to all the community support at the event including, Councilman Brandon Montoya, City of Prescott Parks and Rec Joe Baynes, and Dutch Brothers owner Jazmin Evenson! Plus all the amazing supporters, families, and friends. We believe in communication for all!
What is an AAC Board?
Communication boards are devices that allow people with limited language skills to express their needs, preferences, and decisions by selecting images that represent words.
Make a Difference Program
This program, which we named, There’s Only One YOU: Make a Difference, began after a family conversation where we discussed what we wanted to do with our lives. Our goals needed to encompass the things we loved, were good at, and those things we wanted to do better. We took time to observe what others were doing, both in our family and out in our community. How were others living out their dreams and goals? Collectively, we talked it out. We decided ultimately what we wanted to do was make a difference in others’ lives. We have personally felt the pain and loneliness of having others misunderstand our intentions and abilities or the frustration of not being able to communicate our needs, wants, and ideas.
We met Temple Grandin!
We have had so many fun adventures sharing our Fidgetpockets. One of our favorites was meeting Temple Grandin, Larry King, Joe Mantegna (Rossi). We were invited to attend a gala in Beverly Hills for a fundraiser. The fundraiser was organized by one of our friends...
